"Katya Baxter professional bio"

Thank you for stopping by! If you are wondering about the origin of my name, it is Russian. San Francisco is where I make my home now, many years after leaving my native St. Petersburg first for Boise, Idaho, and later for Toronto Canada.

Hospitality was almost a mandatory thing back in Russia, so Dobro Pozhalovat (welcome) to my site!

If you made it this far, I assume we share a common interest: a love for food and healthy eating!

I am here to do my best to help you.

There is nothing more rewarding for me than to see you make the progress you desire, whether it’s losing weight, keeping cholesterol levels in check, learning new recipes and healthy cooking tricks, navigating through your local farmer’s market, or simply learning to eat better and feel better! When you succeed, I succeed. That’s what it’s all about.

My relationship with food hasn’t always been full of affection. In fact, for about 8 years, I sailed through some rough waters as I fought an eating disorder. But I believe that everything happens for a reason, and ultimately, those years led me to a deeper understanding of myself, of the food that I put in my body, and the effects that food can have on our health. I went back to basics and in return I got my physical and mental health back.

The process taught me two fundamental things:

  1. the importance of listening to my body, and
  2. treating food as a gift, as nourishment, as medicine, as joy.

During this time, my fear of food turned into a love for food. I took a leap of faith, quit my job, and went back to school. They say that when you meet the right person, you’ll ‘just know’. Well, when I sat down with my first client, ‘I just knew’ I was meant to be a nutritionist. Today I get to help people make sense of the ever changing world of food, of nutrition, and of health.

While I most enjoy helping individuals, I am thankful to be able to also use my past business training and experience in a corporate setting. As the nutritional advisor to the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, I developed a comprehensive culinary nutrition program for their team of executive chefs and helped integrate it into Lifestyle Cuisine Plus, a world-wide health and wellness initiative. As a nutritional consultant for MenuMax, a nutrition analysis and menu costing software firm, I applied my experience in the health & wellness and food & beverage to further develop their cutting-edge online application.

Health and wellness along with healthy eating has taken center stage in our life in the past few years. If you are browsing this site, you might be considering getting involved in one way or another. The good news is, there is nothing to lose, and everything to gain! And I would be delighted to help you along in your journey.

Za vashe zdorovie! (to your health!)
