So you made a salad with avocado but only used a half of it. What do you do with the other half?
If you are not going to use it in the cooking, then you’ll have to store it. But storing avocado can be tricky because it tends to turn brown as soon as it comes in contact with air.
But here are several ways you can prevent it from oxidation:
1. Keep the pit and wrap plastic wrap tightly around the ‘meaty’ inside section leaving as little air space as possible. For best results, leave none.
2. Brush a little lemon juice over the ‘meaty’ portion – acid protects it from oxidation. Place in a plastic bag or wrap with a plastic wrap and store in the fridge.
3. And here is my favorite: if you have some yellow or red onion kicking around in your fridge, you are in luck! Grab a ziploc bag, get a slice of the onion and place it together with the avocado in the bag. Zip tightly and throw in the fridge.
